Escaping the UK’s Winter Blues: One Man’s Journey to Mortgage-Free Living in the Caribbean
In a bold move to escape the UK’s notorious winter weather, 22-year-old Alex Cassidy has built a Caribbean home for a mere £3,000. This staggering feat has allowed Alex to live mortgage-free, a dream many of us can only aspire to.
Alex’s new home is a far cry from the UK’s gloomy winters
Growing up between the Isle of Wight and Tobago, Alex had a unique upbringing. His stepdad, Derek, owns land in Tobago, and Alex decided to take the opportunity to build a home on the island. Despite being a UK native, Alex was able to take advantage of lower labor costs and material prices similar to those in the UK. He even pitched in with the construction himself, keeping costs down.
“Some of the material prices were very similar to the UK but labour is a lot cheaper and I did a lot myself,” Alex explained.
